Manzshir Monastery was built in Tibetan style in 1733 and had over 20 temples, which have been destroyed during the Cultural Revolution in the 1930’s. The surrounding mountains are today part of the Bogdkhan Uul Strictly Protected Area. The main temple has been restored and now hosts a museum with pictures of the former complex and a collection of Buddhist art. From the monastery, which is situated on the forested slopes of the Bogdkhan Mountains, you have a wonderful view over a valley. After a visit to the local museum you drive back to Ulaanbaatar.
